Pep and Zip® Organic Baking Spice Set Returns to Costco

Back for another season of fall flavor.

Our Pep & Zip® Organic Baking Spice Set is returning to select Northern California Costco locations for a second year. Beginning in early October, the five-piece set will be available at 58 locations for $8.99, while supplies last.

The set includes five USDA Organic spices and seasonings:

Cinnamon Sugar • Pumpkin Spice • Ground Ginger • Ground Clove • Ground Nutmeg

Together, they cover many of the flavors associated with fall and holiday baking, from cookies and cakes to pies, breads and seasonal beverages.

For Harris Spice, Pep & Zip also represents something new. After decades of sourcing, developing, blending and packaging spice products for retailers and food brands, we're applying that experience to a consumer brand of our own. The Baking Spice Set brings that work directly to Costco shoppers in a simple, accessible format.

What If the Flavors of Fall Could Go Beyond Tradition?

Warm spices like ginger, nutmeg, and clove can bring depth to savory dishes, too. By pairing them with ingredients like maple, roasted vegetables, and fresh herbs, classic fall flavors can take on an entirely new role.  

Beyond the Baking Aisle

Despite the name, baking spices aren't limited to desserts. Ginger, clove and nutmeg work just as well in savory applications, where they can add warmth and complexity to glazes, roasted vegetables, sauces and seasoning blends.

That crossover between familiar flavors and less expected applications is also useful in product development. A flavor associated with pumpkin bread or gingerbread, for example, can become the starting point for a snack seasoning, beverage concept or savory application.

RECIPE

Maple-Spiced Roasted Carrots

Roasted carrots glazed with maple syrup and Pep and Zip Ground Ginger, Ground Nutmeg, and Ground Clove, finished with fresh herbs and toasted pecans.

Ingredients

Maple-Spiced Carrots

  • 1 lb carrots, peeled and halved lengthwise
  • 1½ tbsp olive oil
  • 1½ tbsp maple syrup
  • ½ tsp Pep and Zip Organic Ground Ginger
  • ¼ tsp Pep and Zip Organic Ground Nutmeg
  • ⅛ tsp Pep and Zip Organic Ground Clove
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish
  • Chopped pecans, for garnish

Directions

1 Prep
Preheat oven to 425°F. Peel and halve carrots lengthwise. Arrange in a single layer on a lined baking sheet.
2 Make the Glaze
Whisk together olive oil, maple syrup, Pep and Zip Ground Ginger, Ground Nutmeg, Ground Clove, salt, and black pepper.
3 Coat
Toss carrots with the maple-spice mixture until evenly coated.
4 Roast
Roast at 425°F for 25–30 minutes, turning halfway through, until tender and caramelized.
5 Serve
Garnish with chopped pecans and fresh parsley. Serve warm.
